Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Primarily responsible for the mechanical definition and design and development of scientific instrumentation with a strong emphasis on motion control.
  • Derives technical performance requirements for new instrumentation and automation systems from marketing concepts and market driven data.
  • Possess a keen awareness of competitive systems and is able to assess inherent strengths and weaknesses. Is also aware of state-of-the-art components, subsystems and accessories that add competitive value to new product developments.
  • Conceives, architects and analyzes sub-system and system performance of proof of principal breadboards.
  • Mentors less senior engineers in design and analysis techniques. Checks designs and documentation for completeness, accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Performs tolerance studies to assure form, fit and function of related parts and assemblies.
  • Follows phased-gate development process through the design, manufacturing transition, and commercial release.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge at leading edge potential by attending educational workshops, reviewing the technical literature and participating in professional societies.

Job Requirements:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred) and 7+ years experience in the design and evaluation of instrumentation and automation products.
  • Expertise in motion control systems development and analysis is highly desired. Working knowledge of LabView software is desired.
  • Working knowledge of motors, sensors, vision systems, encoders, linear and rotary motion systems and fluidic controls and design.
  • Demonstrated mastery of SolidWorks or PTC ProEngineer and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong intuition for physical movement in machines, and insight into the physics of motion
  • Ability to calculate loads, acceleration, velocity, momentum and applying results to provide a cost effective solution that meets customers needs.
  • Strong experience with product data managements systems and engineering processes.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing techniques and quality controls.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
